With a Pinterest Business Profile, you gain access to powerful analytical data. It’s also against Pinterest policies to market your business with a personal profile. I always recommend using Pinterest Best Practices.

  • Make sure to use a current picture that matches what you have on other social profiles and your brand.
  • Claim all your accounts (click here for access to detailed tutorials)
    • Website
    • Instagram
    • Youtube

  • Set your cover photo to a banner or video describing what you do for people ( no sound) and a clear Call To Action(CTA).

2. Identify what you want from your Pinterest Marketing.

Your goals may look like: gaining more traffic, building your email list, selling your products/courses, giving away freebies to drive traffic and build your list, building awareness of your brand or message, or getting people on a discovery call, etc.…

The coaches I’ve helped want to get on a call with someone so that they can create that know, like, and trust factor. By understanding that Pinterest is likely the first interaction, you will have with someone. You can envision the customer journey from when they see your pin until they take the action you want so that you can nurture them into a converted client. If this is you, my friend Jana Osofsky of JanaOMedia is an excellent Pinterest strategist to follow.

Bloggers are often just looking for more traffic. I suggest they get precise with their end money-making strategy and then work backward through their customer journey to figure out how they can best show up and prove to their audience that they provide value. You can find the best info by visiting the amazing Kate Ahl at Simple Pin Media.

E-Commerce owners also want more traffic but unlike bloggers, specifically to increase sales. In this case, a Pinterest business profile has some fantastic shopping integrations and resources. You could take advantage of catalogs or the verified merchant program. My friend Magdalena at Pin Prosper has an informative new course to help you level up your Pinterest business profile for e-commerce.

Youtubers and podcasters may want to increase engagement on their channels. I suggest that you convert this long-form content into a blog where you can nurture your audience in your own space. Blogs traditionally get the best traffic from Pinterest, so this will help nurture the relationship with your audience.

3. Put yourself in the mind of your Pinner.

This image includes several people looking up at you to depict your audience on Pinterest with the text overlay - Pinterest Profile for Business Marketing Know Your People | 7 steps to set up your Profile.
  • Understand why your person is on Pinterest. What else are they looking for outside of your services? What questions or problems can you solve for them in bite-size pieces that lead to a greater connection.
  • Keep in mind that Pinterest is a visual search engine, and you need to use imagery that will help them connect with your product, service, or blog.
  • Visualize what your ideal client does and what problems you are solving for them.

4. Make a Keyword Master List

Keyword research is the cement of your Pinterest marketing. Your keyword master list will keep your Pinterest Business Profile optimized. Set a schedule to revisit it and make it robust. I suggest every 3-6 months.  Recently there has been a tool developed to help with this called Pin Inspector. You can learn more here. Or you can do it yourself by typing in the search bar and using the suggested search options.

No matter which method you choose, you need a place to keep all those keywords. If you need help with this, sign up for my Pin Blessed Newsletter and don’t miss my soon-to-come Pinterest Tracker.

5. Create Keyword-Rich Boards

  • It will help if you put keywords in the Title and Description of each board.
  • Aim to start with about 10 boards populated with 30 pins each. The pins should be a mixture of your and others’ content.
  • Please pay attention to your board covers and brand them or select an excellent pin to show what your board is about visually.

6. Create a Plan to be consistent in your Scheduling

  • It’s best to have a fresh image going out every day.
  • I suggest 1 to 2 video pins a week.
  • It’s also a good practice to use idea pins at least once a week.
  • Start where you are and create a plan that will allow you to be consistent. Each pin you create can be pinned on up to 10 boards and will continue to work for you in the future as evergreen content.  I’ve found Tailwind to be the best tool to help with scheduling, consistency, and even extra analytics.

7. Use templates to help you cut down on pin creation time.

Using templates is a game-changer for most when it comes to churning out those fresh images. You can buy packages created for many industries or specific industries. You can use Canva pro( a favorite tool of mine) to repurpose image content from other platforms or use their templates and add your own images, words, fonts, and colors.  If this is something you would like to have branded for you, I offer a branded template service. Check it out here.
